Out of the inky blackness of the pool came a horse; a beast as dark as the Void, with eyes like fire and breath smelling of rot. With a whinny, she stepped onto the grass and placed her brow to that of the Dragonborn. Respect, companionship, and a steed. Like many others before, and many to come. For this horse served Sithis. -------------------------- Phew. Shadowmere! Loyal steed of Lucien Lachance, the Champion of Cyrodiil, the Dragonborn, and many others throughout the ages! I finally got around to doing something proper of her. This took quite some time, too.
Shadowmere has probably been around almost as long (or much longer than) the Dark Brotherhood itself. She has that vibe of some ludicrously powerful creature manifesting to provide aid for Listeners should they need it. I hope I've done her justice here.
You'll notice that I've taken some liberties with her design -- this is because she manifests differently in Oblivion and Skyrim, and because I thought that perhaps she appears different with each recarnation, era, or century. I think it may not have enough contrast. D:
Edit: slightly higher-quality file. EditEdit: further fixes. x_x
Lucien refers to Shadowmere as a mare in Oblivion, and he's probably more knowledgable than Astrid, so I go with that. Though, as I think I mentioned in the ACs of this deviation, it's entirely possible that Shadowmere is Daedric (or similar) and has multiple/a changable form, and could be both.
I'm pretty sure you are right. I just got into the Elder Scrolls games, starting w/ Skyrim. I don't know much, that's why I went by what Astrid said. o.o I didn't mean any offense, because your thoughts seem more legit than mine.
I love Shadowmere but I've heard Shadowmere's been called a boy in Skyrim, but then a girl in other places Either way it's awesome and the only horse that hasn't yet been killed from an accidental fall off a cliff
Yeah, I've only played Skyrim but I've heard him/her being called both genders XD Kind of wish there was a way to find out the horse gender in Skyrim to know for sure since Astrid is very confusing O_o And Shadowmere does fit more with a mare than a stallion but I've heard worse names for horses
